Local theatre companies are an important element to the vitality and vibrancy of a community. Theatre brings a number of people together to work towards a common goal. It allows local artists (whether they are actors, set or prop designers, or writers) to showcase their talent. The Live Oak Theatre Company: The Live Oak Theatre Company (LOT) is a non-profit organization and a division of YWAM (Youth With a Mission) Tampa, which is a not-for-profit 501c3 company. The Live Oak Theatre Company wants to bring opportunities for actors of all ages to work on a variety of productions, and bring those productions to the public for families to enjoy.
Upcoming Auditions: Before you can audition with the Live Oak Theatre Company, you must go to both of the upcoming one and a half hour classes for the orientation and, “How to Audition,” program. The classes will be 6:30 to 8:00pm on August 15th and 18th, and held at Fellowship Hall of Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In order to audition you must complete this program. These classes have no tuition. Auditions for all of the upcoming productions will be at the Fellowship Hall of Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church (200 Mt. Fair Avenue, Brooksville, Florida 34601) on August 20th, from 10:00am to noon. Those who participated in last year’s productions don’t need to attend the auditions, but let them know you’re interested in the upcoming production. Upcoming Productions: In the Fall, there will be an original musical version of Peter Pan on November 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th, their Christmas production will feature the Merry Medieval Madrigal Feast, December 9th, 10th, 16th, and 17th, and in the Spring, the Wizard of Oz musical will take place March 31st, April 1st, 7th, and 8th. Admission for the fall and spring productions are $5 for students 13 years and younger when you buy an adult ticket (which is $18) and include tea, coffee, and dessert. Stage West Community Playhouse: Stage West, a non-profit organization that works towards enriching the community through the performing arts, was started in 1980, and has grown substantially in the community since then. Stage West puts on their productions with the help of the community volunteers who are involved with various stages and aspects of the production, including lighting, costuming, ushers, and many other positions. They provide scholarships, workshops, and a variety of productions.
Upcoming Auditions: Stage West provides a number of opportunities to get involved with their productions. If you’re interested in acting, there are several upcoming auditions. The next auditions are Friday, August 27th at 7:00pm and Saturday, August 28th at 1:00pm for their production of The Butler Did It. Other productions that you can audition for include Hernando Holiday Happenings (Friday, September 9th at 6:30pm and Saturday, September 10th at 1:00pm) Fiddler on the Roof (audition dates/time haven’t been announced yet), Over the River and Through the Woods (Saturday, November 12th at 1:00pm and Sunday, November 13th at 7:00pm), Evita (Friday, December 9th at 7:00pm and Saturday, December 10th at 1:00pm), Always…Patsy Cline (Friday, February 24th at 7:00pm and Saturday, February 25th at 1:00pm, 2017), and Always a Bridesmaid (Friday, March 3rd at 7:00pm and Saturday, March 4th at 1:00pm, 2017).
Volunteer: If acting isn’t what you’re interested in, or if you would prefer to work behind the scenes of the production, consider volunteering for other positions. To volunteer at Stage West, you can contact the Box Office and leave your contact information (Box Office information below) or you can attend their membership meetings. The doors for these meetings open around 7:00pm, and the meeting itself starts at 7:30pm at the Stage West theatre on the second Wednesday of each month.
