On Tuesday, August 23, 2016, the Joy FM, a Christian radio station, teamed up with our local Chick Fil A to collect food for a local charity. The collected food will be delivered to the People Helping People of Hernando County, to aid their Weekend Blessings program. Weekend Blessings is a backpack program that feeds elementary and middle school children who would otherwise have little or no food to eat over the weekend. Hernando Sun will be covering the Weekend Blessing program in September.
The Joy FM collection here in Brooksville was not the only one that took place. On the same day they were in many cities throughout Florida to help collect food for local organizations. Earlier this month they did the same collection throughout the state of Georgia. Some of the items needed and collected were 100% juice boxes, individual mac n cheese, oatmeal, cereal, ramen noodles, other snack items, and grocery store gift cards, and cash that could be used to purchase food for the program.
As a thank you for all the donations the Joy FM gave away drawstring backpacks, magnets, stickers, and you could enter to win concert tickets. A representative from the Joy FM was on site at each collection location handing out items and thanking everyone who donated. Just because you missed the Be joy event this week does not mean you still cannot help.
By contacting People Helping People 352-686-4466 or by visiting their website www.phpinhc.org you can make a donation and also check out the other programs they run and how to help with those.
