Credit Card skimmers have been found at two more gas stations in Hernando County. One at gas pumps at the Sunoco Station at 7170 Barclay Ave in Brooksville and the other at the Sunoco in the City of Brooksville, 765 S Broad St.
Denise Moloney tells Hernando Sun that the skimmers are now installed internally and there is little indication that the pump has been compromised. Card skimmers could be identified in the past by jostling the external card reader. The Sheriff’s Department says to look for any damage near the card reader and if the safety seal has been tampered with. They encourage citizens to report anything suspicious.
Ms. Moloney advises customers that have paid at the pump to carefully monitor their bank and credit card accounts.
Even though paying inside is less convenient, it is safer and you can pick up a copy of the Hernando Sun if you are gassing up at 7-eleven or Speedway!
