Crescent Community Clinic is offering sponsorship opportunities for its upcoming fundraiser, the “Nearly” Real Housewives of Hernando County, which will be performed on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Vineyard Christian Church, 375 South Broad Street, Brooksville, Florida 34601, and on Saturday, February 11, at the Town Square Theater, 3021 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, Florida 34607. Both performances begin at 7 pm and doors open at 6:30 for dessert and coffee. Written by local playwright Jerry Cowling and directed by Vince Vanni, the “Nearly” Real Housewives of Hernando County features the talents of Patricia Augustyniak, Valerie Ciaccio, Carla Hayes, Barbara Manuel, Sandra Roth, and Richard Sanvenero, Jr.

Hernando Youth Orchestra has instruments for loan

Upcoming vacancies on County Boards
The Hernando Board of County Commissioners is now accepting applications from individuals wishing to serve on the following County Boards and the following positions, which will become vacant as of December 31, 2016:
The Board of Construction and Regulation is seeking six positions, including: one consumer position, one general contractor position, one electrical contractor position, one roofing contractor and two engineer positions (of which one can be an architect).
The Fine Arts Council is seeking five positions.
The Library Advisory Committee is seeking two positions.
Port Authority is seeking two positions.
The Tourist Development Council is seeking two positions, including: one accommodation owner/operator representative collecting the Tourist Tax and one representative involved in tourism not collecting the Tourist Tax. All applicants must be residents and registered voters in Hernando County. All roles are voluntary, non-paid positions and may be designated as an alternate member position. PHSC Launches Fire Academy Program
Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC), in partnership with Pasco County Fire Rescue, now offers a Fire Academy at its Dade City campus. The new PHSC Fire Academy program consists of two eight-week courses, Firefighter I and II, to meet 398 hours of minimum standards training to prepare cadets for a firefighting career.
The Firefighter I course is held at the PHSC East Campus Public Services Technology Building, 36727 Blanton Road. Firefighter II is held at the Pasco County Fire Rescue Training Center. Upon successful completion of the Fire Academy, cadets are eligible to sit for the State of Florida Bureau of Fire Standards exam to become a certified firefighter.
“The academy plans to graduate its first 13 cadets in December,” said William Watson, PHSC instructor/coordinator, fire science technology. “We can accommodate 20 cadets in each class and plan to begin a new class of cadets every eight weeks, including summer session.”
“The new academy has been established to build a feeder system of highly skilled and well trained firefighters ready to step in as current local firefighters are nearing retirement,” said Watson.
PHSC Fire Academy cadets must meet specific requirements including: a background check and clean driving record, EMT certification from state of Florida or the National Registry, current CPR certification from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association, a complete physical assessment, and documentation of a medical clearance for participation in the program.
Mandatory orientation for persons interested in applying to the Fire Academy will be held on the third Thursday of each month at 2 and 6 p.m. in the Public Service Technology building on the East Campus in Dade City. Academia Hernando will present its Fall 2016 Lecture Series from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, through Nov. 4, at Pasco-Hernando State College’s Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court. Lectures include:
