Color Vibe 5K: a festival of colors
Anderson Snow Park in Spring Hill was filled with over 1000 people and Saturday’s weather couldn’t have been better.
Hype music and Zumba kicked the crowd’s energy into high gear. Participants of all ages gathered in front of the stage dressed perfectly for the event: sunglasses, white shirts, bright colored accessories.  Some were sporting the fashionable Color Vibe trend, a tutu.
As the crowd waits for the rounds of colored powder (custom made from cornstarch, baking soda, and food grade colorants) to burst through the air, and you can see how infectious their excitement is.

2016 Color Vibe fashion trend...just awesome!

This 5K is not a competitive race; it is a race geared for people of all ages. It provides an opportunity for friends and families to enjoy the outdoors. You could walk or run, heck, even skip if you wanted to. It was a day to put FUN into exercise.
Color Vibe started back in 2012 and was inspired from an annual Hindu festival, Holi. This festival celebrates the season of Spring by throwing and applying colored water and powders on friends and family. Another common name for this event is the “Festival of Colors.”
“The idea with the color (packs) kind of stems from that festival and we incorporated it into a 5K run,” Color Vibe Race director Daniel Pete, said. “It is trying to get more people out and to participate as family, to bring their kids and to exercise and have a great time doing it.”
The Color Vibe is not only a great event; it also brings awareness for a local charity.
“Every location we go to we have a non-profit organization that we work with and at Spring Hill it was Relay for Life, it was our second year partnering with them,” Pete said. “It’s always great when you have a good organization to work with.”
So what is it about this 5K event that makes it have such a WOW effect on people? It’s the colored powder and it’s just cool.
