Florida Bug Jam
Volkswagens from every era could be seen driving on Interstate 75 heading to the Pasco
County Fairgrounds this weekend for the 28th Annual Florida Bug Jam.
Throughout the years, there has been a theme to go along with the Florida Bug Jam. For instance, back in 2014 it was the Blues Brothers; 2015 was Star Wars; and this year the theme is comic books.
“It’s been tradition since the original bug jam, they always had different themes,” Randy Yoho, Promoter for the Bug Jam said.
This event has been through 5 promoters since it first started. Under Randy Yoho’s tenure, activities have increased. Yoho has been promoting the event for the last 3 years.
“We took the one day show that they had before and turned it into a two day show,” Yoho said.

VW enthusiasts come from all over the country including Hawaii for this event. Extending the event has made it more worthwhile for those that have traveled from afar. Camping opportunities are also available now.
Saturday began with a poker run and an all-day Bug on the Track, where VW’s were able to race on the off-road motocross track. Vendors in attendance included VW parts suppliers. Ending Saturday’s event was their Pre-Jam party being held in Downtown Dade City.
Sunday, November 13 is the big day at Florida Bug Jam for those that have refurbished their vintage VW. Last year, over 500 VWs entered into the show.
Organizers are expecting to exceed last year’s attendance of 10,000.
“I love camaraderie of meeting all the interesting people. I made a lot of new friends and it’s just exciting, I like to see what I can make happen to help increase the spectator’s numbers,” Margaret Boswell said. Boswell is the Public and Media Relations Manager and this is her second year being involved with the Florida Bug Jam.
“It’s a pretty cool community, nice people and everyone is having a good time,” Yoho said.
