Located just a little south of Springhill Drive on US 41 you will find a wonderful place to spend a weekend afternoon with the whole family. Sweetfield’s Farm opened in 2008 and is family owned and operated. In the fall they have their annual corn maze and in the spring they have the sunflower maze. Even prior to moving to Hernando County 3 years ago we always made a day trip there each fall and spring. Each year it gets a little bigger with something new added.
I spent last Sunday there answering the clues and getting lost a time or two in the large Sunflower maze. The weather was breezy and not too hot allowing us to enjoy all the farm had to offer. The maze still provided sunflowers both small and large giving the perfect backdrop for a family photo or an up close shot of the sunflowers themselves.
The price of admission was reasonable considering it not only included the maze. Other activities available included a hay ride, a turn at the corn launcher, mini tractor racing and a variety of games including bean bag toss, lawn Jenga and rubber ducky racing. If you need a rest you can grab a picnic table under the trees and the kids can burn off energy in the treehouse complete with a slide and swing.
Goats on the roof, yes you will see them here. They are always ready to greet you at the fence for a good petting. Their selection of farm animals also include cows and chickens who are fun to watch at feeding time when they all seem to run to the exact same spot. A giant turkey, happy to strut around posing for photos is kept in the pen with the chickens. The hot spot seemed to be the pig pen where you could watch a pig race or two.
A large barn houses the pre-picked produce available for purchase. They also offer a u pick section with the selection rotating regularly. On Sundays Strong Tower Winery is on site offering samples and bottles of their delicious wine for purchase, as well as other food vendors. Packing your own lunch and enjoying it in the picnic area is always welcome.
So if you haven’t visited Sweetfield’s Farm plan a trip soon. The Spring sunflower maze is open every weekend in May 10am-4pm, with the last admission at 3pm. Take a wrong turn or two in the maze and it will enhance the adventure. Don’t forget on your way out to make a couple vendor stops and grab your fresh popped kettle corn and fresh squeezed lemonade for the ride home. I promise it will be a day to remember.

Their last ticket sell time is 3:00pm. Sturdy shoes are suggested (no open toe shoes, sandals, flipflops), along with sunscreen and a hat. Don’t forget your camera! Adults: $9.50; Ages 3-11: $5.00; under age three: Free. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. (Note: no credit cards or checks accepted; no ATM on site).
