Feld Entertainment, owners of the Ringling Brothers’ Circus, announced Saturday that they will be ending circus performances May 21, 2017. There will be 30 performances across the country between now and the final show which will take place in Uniondale, New York, at the Nassau County Coliseum.
The Ringling Brothers’ Circus has been a Florida Institution for well over a hundred years. Although the Circus wintered in Sarasota for much of this, it probably had the largest effect on the town of Gibsonton which among other things had a post office with a counter for dwarfs and zoning laws which allowed residents to keep elephants and circus tents. Sarasota houses the Ringling Art Museum which is located at the Ca’ d’Zan. The Ca’ d’Zan is the estate of one of the founders of the Ringling Brother’s Circus and is known as “the house that the circus built.” Near the Ca’ d’Zan are other mansions that were built by members from the Ringling Family.
The Ringling Circus brought amazing acts to the United States and entertained generations of Americans. They provided entertainment that appealed to the entire family from grandparents to little children.
