The subject of building sidewalks on Quality Drive has been in discussion for quite some time. In February 2016, Congressman Richard Nugent attended a meeting, and asked the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to expedite construction of the sidewalks. At the time, Assistant County Administrator Brian Malmberg explained that the delay was a budget issue.

The long-awaited sidewalk construction on Quality Drive will commence on March 20th. According to County Engineer Mark Guttman, CEMEX will donate the concrete to cover Phase One of the project, which starts at Mariner Boulevard and extends to the East portion of the Vista Grande complex. This phase encompasses 2.1 miles, and is expected to be completed in ninety days.

Phase two, which will continue eastward, terminates at Farnsworth Blvd. The secondary roads Medical Boulevard and Seven Hills Drive will also be included in the project. This phase estimated to begin in September 2017, however has no estimated completion date at this time.
