Decorating a home can be a daunting experience. Whether it’s reimagining the family room or choosing the right colors to dress up your existing furniture, the solutions can feel insurmountable.
Enter Unique Finds — the kind of store with finds you won’t see in any strip mall or big box-anchored shopping center — offering an eclectic blend of furniture, art and collectibles.
Unique Finds is located in historic Tarpon Springs. Modern, vintage and “antique” is their theme, according to their Facebook page, and home decor is the owners’ passion.
Nancy Logaglio, the co-owner of Unique Finds, said, “The goal is to bring our clients the very best selection of old and new in furniture, decor, art, collectibles, decorating and painting solutions and more.”
The store is the project of Mark and Nancy Logaglio, who have some considerable experience in estate liquidation.
Unique Finds features a substantial eclectic mix, from original art and antiques to vintage and new products. Constant inventory turnover keeps it feeling fresh and up-to-date.
“Everyone can find something here whether it’s a uniquely styled lamp at $30 or a fire bucket,” Nancy said. “There’s something here that will appeal to everyone.”
The Logaglios, who originally started their business at a much smaller location nearby, said it was the perfect time for them to expand to a more spacious property.
“These days, people are looking for unique,” Mark Logoglio said. Mass produced furniture has had its day.”
The trend for old furniture is here to stay. Homeowners are mixing modern pieces with vintage pieces, rustic with cottage, it all can work together now.
Eclectic pieces, large and small, are scattered throughout the store’s large open space but don’t expect things to look the same every time you stop by for a visit. The Logaglia’s like customers to take their time to walk around while having a look at the decorative objects and furniture.
“My wife and I like to find pieces that have that old-school craftsmanship,” said customer Devlin McCord of Clearwater, a frequent customer at Unique Finds. “Nowadays, furniture is made so cheaply and not made to last at all.”
McCord added that he likes to come and spend an hour or two here a couple of times a week just because there’s always new and interesting pieces and it’s a nice, welcoming place to come, relax, and meet other like buyers.
Also at Unique Finds, is the full range of chalk and milk paint products from Amy Howard at Home, The Real Milk Paint Co., and Dixie Belle Chalk Paints.
“Everything these days is do-it-yourself, so we started carrying the authentic paints for our customers who wanted to paint their new purchases themselves,” said Nancy.
Unique Finds has now introduced in-store classes that teach painting techniques the pros use.
“My personal favorite is Dixie Belle Chalk Paint because the coverage is amazing,” she said of the paint that on certain pieces needs only one coat.
“There’s no sanding or priming required and it can be used on almost any surface, including metal.” Dixie Belle products come in a plethora of gorgeous colors and has superb adhesive qualities. It dries to a matte finish and distresses beautifully.
“We even use it on wood that I’ve salvaged from barns,” said Mark.
“The quality of paint is important to be able to restore and refurbish.
“There’s something about this place that shouts out “unique,” said McCord.
“Some people don’t understand why we get excited about this kind of stuff — stuff that they might consider junk, but it’s the trend today to mix the new with the old and the rough with the smooth to give a piece of furniture another life,” he said.
