Schools out and it won’t be long until the cries of boredom will be echoing throughout our homes. Beat the heat and give kids a way to spend their summer days by checking out the local events and attractions here in Hernando County.
Strike City, located at 3544 Mariner Blvd in Spring Hill, is providing free bowling for kids of all ages from April 15 until October 1. Children will be able to bowl 2 free games per day with only the standard shoe rental fee. In addition to the kids’ summer special, Strike City also has retro arcade games and a snack bar for refreshments. Kids Summer Strikers Camp, a program to teach children how to bowl starts June 10th from 10 am- 12 pm. The cost is $10 a week for children 4 and up and will include open bowl. Springleton Fun Park located at 9227 County Line Rd in Spring Hill is one of Hernando County’s newest attractions and has something for kids of all ages, from bounce houses and water slides, go carts, snack bar, mini golf and arcade games. Normally open Friday, Saturday and Sundays, Springleton is also opening on Thursdays for the summer. Starting June 9th, families can look forward to reduced priced admission to movies. The Beacon Theatre, located at 12961 Cortez Blvd, is offering $1 admission per person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-12 pm and $1.50 each for kid size drinks and popcorn. Touchstar Cinemas Spring Hill 8, located at 2955 Commercial Way, is also offering reduced admission during the summer. Many movies will be shown over the summer months, all movies will be listed as PG or under for 75¢ admission per person on Tuesdays from 10-12 pm. Drinks and popcorn are available for $2.50 each. It is important to note that there are programs in place during the summer months to help school age children receive well balanced meals during the week that they may not normally receive due to school being out for the summer. Kids eat free at several Hernando county locations beginning June 8th and IDs are not required.
The Cruisin’ Café is a converted school bus that has been turned into a diner on wheels and will provide meals Monday through Friday to children 18 years and under at two locations. Meals will be available from 11:00 to 11:45 am at Delta Woods Park and from 12:30-1:15 pm at the Elks Lodge located at 510 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Brooksville.
Free breakfast and lunch will also be offered Monday through Thursday at two area locations to serve Hernando county’s children. Eastside Elementary School, 27151 Roper Road in Brooksville, will have meals available to those 18 and under, breakfast served from 8:30-9:30 am and lunch from 11:00-11:30 am. Westside Elementary School, located at 5400 Applegate Dr. in Spring Hill, will serve breakfast from 8:00-8:30 am and lunch from 11:30-12:00 pm. For more information, please call (352) 797-7028.
