(Spring Hill, FL) @ 1:02pm Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to a reported gas leak in the area of Mariner Blvd and Marquette St, a residential area of Spring Hill. Initial reports stated that a construction crew working in the area hit a gas line. No explosion or fire at the time of the incident. No reported injuries to construction crews or citizens in the area.
HCFR fire crews and HazMat Team are on scene. A safety perimeter has been established, utilizing gas detection devices, in the area to secure and prevent any ignition of the leaking gas. Mariner Blvd has been shut down to both north and south bound traffic. This also necessitated an evacuation of four homes in the area. HCFR has notified TECO Gas and are awaiting technicians to arrive and repair the line.
HCFR asks that the community avoid the area and take alternate travel routes. Updates to follow.
HCFR responded with 2 fire engines, 1 Hazardous Material Unit,1 rescue, and 2 battalion chiefs for a total of 11 fire rescue personnel. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with traffic control.
