Hernando County Utilities Director Gordon Onderdonk addressed the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, June 27th with a proposal to amend the ordinance that defines “good payment history” with respect to the Hernando County Utilities Department (HCUD).

Currently, a “good payment history” is defined as “twelve months combined good payment history within the preceding 24-months.” A resident who meets these requirements is eligible to have their deposit waived. It does not take into account seasonal residents, who are not present for several months out of the year, and therefore do not qualify to have their deposits returned, and subsequently waived upon returning to Hernando County and re-establishing service.

The amended ordinance was passed unanimously, and will consider a “good payment history” to be twelve months of good payment history in an active 36-month timeframe, rather than 24 consecutive months.
