Dolan House is a lovely B&B located in downtown Brooksville. It opened in January 2017 and is currently going on its 7-month anniversary. Mike and Tina Dolan, the hosts and owners, know what they are doing and obviously enjoy interacting with their guests. We are lucky to have this wonderful B&B right in Brooksville. It is in close proximity to all the extraordinary things Brooksville has to offer and the home has a very interesting and historic background.
It was originally built during the late 1890’s by Francis Ederington Jr, son of Colonel Francis H. Ederington and Precious Ann Nevitt Ederington. The Ederington family were original pioneers in Hernando County and moved here in 1851. Colonel Ederington bought Chinsegut Hill and the surrounding area, farmed and built the plantation.
We here in Hernando County are very lucky Mike and Tina took an interest in the home and our city. It took about 6 months to renovate and convert it to the charming home it is now. The home was included in this year’s Brooksville Heritage Festival and tour of historic homes.
We had an opportunity to spend 2 nights at the Dolan House bed & breakfast for a family visit.
When you walk in the house you feel like you are coming home. It is comfortable, inviting and you won’t want to leave. Mike and Tina are friendly, knowledgeable hosts that know the community and can advisE you no matter what your interests are.
The location is perfect; across the street from May Stringer House and a short distance to the train depot museum and Saxon Manor. So, if you are invited to a wedding at the Manor I would definitely consider making a night of it. The beds are very comfortable. Mike and Tina thought of everything — from the linens, to the towels to the soaps.
There are two rooms to chose from. The Snow Room is named in honor of Charlotte Ederington Snow, the eldest daughter of Colonel Francis H. Ederington and his wife Precious. The room is quite large and has a queen-size bed. The bathroom is just a few steps outside the door and has a clawfoot tub/shower and has character and comfort. The second room is called the Ederington Suite and has a queen bed and an ensuite bathroom. Both rooms have an adjoining small living area between the two rooms – perfect for coffee, relaxing and chatting. Both rooms are located upstairs and across the hall from each other. There was an infant staying in the other room and we didn’t hear a thing. Either that baby was a good sleeper or the house is that well built.
What was most enjoyable was how we woke up. To the smell of Tina’s wonderful baking and cooking greeted us each morning. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. What a wonderful sleep and stay.
The home is situated in old Brooksville so there are many opportunities to enjoy the history and charm of its beautiful community. After, or before, your adventures touring, hiking, kayaking or biking, make sure and stop by one of the downtown restaurants or the greatcoffee bar at Mountaineer. Being a coffee drinker — the place rocks.
