During the July 11th meeting, Supervisor of Elections Shirley Anderson appeared before the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) in order to appoint a commissioner to the Hernando County Canvassing Board.

Commissioner Wayne Dukes stated that Commissioner Nick Nicholson had agreed to serve on the 2018 canvassing board. This is slightly unusual since according to statute, the primary appointment goes to the Chairman.

When discussing an alternate, Commissioners Steve Champion and John Allocco stated that they would not be eligible, Mr. Allocco giving the reason that he is the chairman of the Hernando County Republican Party. Ms. Anderson acknowledged Lynn Gruber – White, Chairwoman of the Planning and Zoning Committee in the audience. Ms. Gruber – White approached the board while County Attorney Collier commended her previous work with the canvassing board.

“I really enjoyed the process very much, and I loved working with Shirley’s team, and if I can serve in this way, I am really honored…”

For reasons that were not publicly mentioned, Commissioner Dukes asked Ms. Gruber – White if she would serve as the primary canvassing member, representing the Commissioner position. Ms. Gruber – White accepted the appointment of primary canvassing member, and Commissioner Nick Nicholson agreed to serve as alternate.
