Weekend fun for the whole family. Off-road motorcycles and ATV quads took to the tracks off Mondon Hill in Brooksville on Jan. 6, 2018.
“The Coyote Hare Scrambles have been going on for years at this location; it’s one of the best tracks,” said Rob Swann with the Nature Coast Trail Blazers. “It challenges the riders with hills, turns, just about everything a rider will encounter is on this track.”
All ages ride in this event, guys and gals. There was a 71-year-old rider that I was not able to catch up with, but his wife told me he’s never grown up.
Some riders and families camp out all weekend. Vendors attend the event from parts to mechanics to keep you in the race as well as food vendors. EMT’s are on site and there are spotters throughout the track with radios in case of a rider going down.
James Hayes #200 was the winner of the quad race. James has been riding for 5 years as a member of the Florida Trail Riders (FTR). James said it’s the best thing ever.
The Suncoast Trail Blazers is one of the FTR Clubs that presented this weekend’s fun event. The race schedule consisted of PeeWee bikes & quads, Mini Bikes, Junior & Adult Bikes and Quads.
Safety is most important. All competition machines must be tech inspected in order to race. All must have spark arrestors (except peewees). Quads only must have tether switches. And all must have properly functioning FTR transponders.

About the FTR: The FTR Florida Trail Riders is a registered, non-profit Florida corporation over 42 years old with over 2500 members throughout the state Florida. The FTR mission is to promote an image of responsible motorcyclists, assist and monitor off road events in Florida, to establish policies, rules and procedures, with the end result being a series of organized events, to sponsor and support positive motorcycle/off road legislation, and to establish and maintain good rapport with private landowners, local, state and federal land management agencies.
