Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank was a German-born diarist and one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. She gained fame posthumously with the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl, in which she documents her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944, during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.
She received a blank diary as a thirteenth birthday present and begins to write in it two days later. Soon after receiving a summons to report to a German work camp, Margo and Anne Frank join their parents Otto and Edith in hiding. Hiding with them were Otto’s business partner, his wife, and heir son, Peter. Mr. Dussel, a dentist, joins them four months later. With the assistance of a group of Otto Frank’s trusted colleagues, they remained hidden for two years and one month.
It is one of the world’s most widely known books and has been the basis for several plays and films.
