Anthony Acosta, former personal assistant to LA Dodger’s pitcher and Hernando High alum Bronson Arroyo, is charged with grand theft and forgery after selling Arroyo’s yacht without permission and keeping the proceeds. Acosta forged Arroyo’s signature on the bill of sale. The yacht valued at $167,000 was sold by Acosta for $22,000 in July 2013 after he was let go by Arroyo in 2012.
Acosta had also been lying to Arroyo about needed repairs to the vessel in order to pocket more money. He eventually told his former boss that the yacht which was stored in Tampa had sunk. Acosta had the yacht relocated to an Opa-locka storage facility which he then sold.
The new owners of the yacht were notified of a lien on the yacht in September of 2013. Acosta refused to return their money. The new owners then contacted Arroyo in April of 2014 over the dispute and subsequently discovered that his yacht had been sold without his permission and his signature forged on the bill of sale.
FDLE agents arrested Anthony Acosta October 5th. He is on a $50,000 bond at Hillsborough County Jail . Acosta will be prosecuted for grand theft and forgery by Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.
