On October 20, 2015 Hernando County deputies arrested a Fifth Grade teacher from Explorer K-8 School in Spring Hill. The teacher, Catherine Ferraro admitted to stealing medications from the purses of two teachers after they contacted School Resource Deputy Stacy Rodriguez about the situation. Ferraro had been stealing items from the teachers since the beginning of the year according to the report.
Ferraro was identified by witnesses and then interviewed by Deputy Rodriguez and Sergeant John McMurdo. When confronted by the officers, Ferraro admitted to stealing the prescriptions and said she was keeping them in her truck. The officers collected the stolen pills as evidence.
Ferraro was charged with 2 counts of grand theft, possession of a controlled substance, and is on a $6000 bond. The case remains under investigation with cooperation from the Hernando County School Board and State Attorney’s Office.
