Leaves may still be green, but the weather is finally starting to cool off. We are starting to see highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s. Around the end of the year the averages will cool further and we will see average high in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

There will be periods of cool weather which will be interrupted by warmer weather. October through December is traditionally the driest months of the year. Even though this year is supposed to have a colder and wetter fall and winter because of this year’s El Niño, it should be noticeably drier.

The term El Niño means little boy in spanish. It is also used to refer to the Christ Child. El Niño was a name given to the unusually warm waters noticed around December by fisherman off the coast of South America in the1600s.

In weather, El Niño is sometimes called the warm phase of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle. El Niño refers to periodic warming in sea surface temperatures across the central and east-central Equatorial Pacific.
