Carolina’s Cuban Cafe is in the Silverthorn Plaza at the corner of Powell and Barclay. They are open for lunch and dinner and they serve excellent cuban fare. They offer a number of options for under ten dollars.
The owners Lissette and Juan Escobar are from Havana, Cuba. They left Cuba around 25 years ago. I spoke with their daughter Carolina.Lissette was the cook in her family. When they had a family reunion everyone wanted her to cook.
To see if strangers would like her recipes as much as her family, several years ago they started a restaurant in a gas station in Masaryktown. It went well and they saved up enough to open their own restaurant. She makes the food in her restaurant the same way she does at home.
Lissette cooks in the restaurant six days a week and on Sunday she cooks for her family.
The restaurant has a cozy interior with a couple of outside tables. With the weather getting cooler, the outside tables will actually get used. The dining room has two TVs in case there is a game you don’t want to miss. There is Cuban music in the background.
I tried the Carolina sandwich. This is a cuban sandwich with the addition of spanish sausage. The bread was fresh and sausage added to the other flavors nicely. Overall an excellent cuban sandwich.
You can call ahead for pickup or you can eat in the restaurant. They also offer catering for reasonable prices. They also offer catering for reasonable prices. You can find them on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Carolinas-cuban-cafe-398704783559626/?fref=ts or call them at (352) 593-4971.
