Rogers’ Christmas House began as a Christmas section within the Rogers’ Department Store in Downtown Brooksville. As the popularity of the Christmas venue grew, Margaret “Weenie” Ghiotto (Rogers) expanded the business into the iconic five cottage complex that many remember with fondness. Ghiotto passed away in 2006 and the Christmas House sadly closed its doors in 2010. However the new owners of the property, Greg and Dorothea Stephens, are ushering in a new era for the Christmas House.
Rogers’ Christmas house will be returning to the Rogers’ Christmas House village with a soft opening scheduled for December 10th. Rogers’ Christmas House village will be home to several stores including Rogers’ Christmas House, The Wired Bird, and the Tilted Teacup.
The Wired Bird is set to open the same day that Rogers’ Christmas house has a soft opening. They bill themselves as Eclectic Accessories for You & Your Home. The Tilted Teacup has been at the village for over a year. It bills itself as an uplifting dining experience. They offer teas and lighter fare. You can book an afternoon tea, high tea, or a lunch. The resurrectors of Rogers’ Christmas house, Greg and Dorothea Stephens visited Rogers’ Christmas house before it closed. They appreciated its importance to the community. They are planning to start out small and gradually expand. The Christmas House will be in a single house in the village and hopefully grow just like the original store. Jean Fox who managed Rogers’ Christmas before its closing will be working there. Fox was a good friend of Weenie Ghiotto.
You may notice the missing iconic Rogers’ Christmas house signs, including the Christmas Tree sign. Those signs were removed by code enforcement, because they did not meet current sign codes.
Many people in Hernando County are very excited about the return of Rogers’ Christmas house. This will hopefully lead to a revitalization of downtown Brooksville.
