The Hernando Sun began printing nearly one year ago. Since then we have grown tremendously. We started with an eight page newspaper and two writers. Now we are printing twenty pages and have around nine writers. Our total readership has climbed to tens of thousands. We received our Periodical designation by the US Post Office. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to provide local news coverage for the Hernando County community. With that in mind, we are ready to take the next step. On April 1st, 2016 we will be printing once a week.

When we started a newspaper, many people thought we were crazy. Maybe there is some truth in that. However, with every issue, we receive kind notes and phone calls from appreciative readers. There must be some sense and viability in a business that is appreciated by the community.

We realize that a newspaper which prints once a month can not provide adequate coverage. It ends up reporting stories more like a magazine than a newspaper. This means that many time sensitive stories go unreported in the print version. It also limits contact with readers who do not use the internet for news coverage.

As a weekly newspaper we hope to provide more timely print coverage and deliver more stories. We are thankful to all of our subscribers, advertisers and contributors for sharing in our efforts to bring a local paper to Hernando County. We look forward to the task ahead, although it may seem crazy to some, it makes perfect sense to us.
