Archery at Chinsegut
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission put Chinsegut’s youth archery program in motion last year. The FWC operates several ranges for youth summer programs which focus on target shooting statewide- Chinsegut now being one of them.
“We are excited… that it’s another new program that people can do here at Chinsegut,” stated Gina Philhower Director for Chinsegut Conservation Center.
There are two FWC sections that work out of the Chinsegut office; Public Access and Wildlife Viewing which includes programs and education for the public and Habitat and Species Conservation which ensures healthy populations of all native species and their habitats on a statewide basis. When certain habitat and management goals were met, the archery program was able to move forward. “This is their area that we are using and they’re gracious enough to allow us to use it for the archery program,” Philhower said.
Those that have their own archery equipment are welcome to come out to the conservation area. The range is open 8am to 2pm every Saturday. Chinsegut also offers Archery for Beginners, a program for ages 8 and up.
“This is really a great course; it’s something new and different to do,” Krisee Phipps said.
For the Chinsegut Conservation Center the goal is to get people outdoors. “Everything we do here is to promote outdoors and conservation,” Philhower explained.
