Spring Carnival
What could start the month of April off better than a Spring Carnival?
Kicking off their second annual event at Powell Middle School in Brooksville, the Powell’s Student Council showed the best way for kids to interact with the community.
It all started with a group of young students from the student council brainstorming on how to become more involved within the community.
“We never really had any community events, so let’s do something that we can open the school up… to see what Powell Middle School is about,” said Jessica Buse, seventh grade civics teacher as well as student council advisor.
Community vendors and crafters attended this event and the games at the carnival were all games the students researched and help build, from Plinko, Ring Toss, and also at the carnival was the kids’ favorite, Water Dunking Game!
“Every year we want to grow, we want to invite more people in,” Jessica Buse said.
Buse instills creativity within these students and encourages them to be leaders on campus. With the efforts of the students, events like the Spring Carnival take shape in order to raise money for school improvements, help academic programs and build up community relations and school morale.
“I want them (students) to learn how to be leaders, learn how to work hard, about work ethic and to build community relationships,” Buse said.
