BROOKSVILLE- The Hernando County Planning Department has scheduled two volunteer work days at the Cypress Lake Preserve on May 6 and May 13, 2016.
On May 6, volunteers will perform trail maintenance to allow better access to the Florida National Scenic Trail. Loppers and clippers are needed to trim the brush. On May 13, trail work will be completed and repairs will be made to the pedestrian gate and fence at the corner of Easter Drive and Forge Drive that was recently damaged by a car.
Volunteers should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and long pants. They should also bring bug spray and water.

The Cypress Lake Preserve is a 331-acre park located at 32375 Cortez Blvd. in Ridge Manor. It contains eight natural plant communities, lakes, freshwater marsh, cypress swamp, bottomland hardwoods, live oak hammocks, scrub and sandhills. This diverse community supports many animals, including some that are threatened or endangered. The Florida National Scenic Trail is winds through the preserve and provides opportunities for hiking, observing the variety of vegetative communities and nature watching.
