Student Representative’s Update
Clay Everett thanked the amazing teachers throughout the county for teacher appreciation week. He highlighted accomplishments and events throughout the district including Nature Coast hosting the Relay for Life event, Springstead softball making it to the elite 8 and Weeki Wachee baseball team reaching the regional playoffs for the first time. Everett said all of the high schools had many students honored at the Chamber of Commerce Recognition Banquet last Thursday. Winding Waters has its spring concert May 12th. On May 13th 8th graders will be going to Universal for grad bash field trip. Challenger’s 8th graders will be going on May 20th and will have silly fun day coming up. Parrott will have a field trip to Buccaneer Bay on May 25th. Moton is having a 5th grade dance on May 20th and all of the 5th graders are very excited. Suncoast recently had a field day “week.” Hernando’s Prom was Saturday May 7th.
Superintendent’s Update delivered by Ms. Karen Jordan, PIO
Zana Brooks is Hernando’s new e-school principal. She joins the school district from Florida Virtual School where she has been an administrator for 3 years. Over the course of her 26 years in education she has taught pre-k, adult education and was a reading specialist.
Explorer K-8 cheerleaders participated in ONE finals national cheerleading competition. The team scored enough points to move onto the finals despite a team member sustaining an injury. They took first place in their division, bringing home the first national championship in cheerleading. According to Deanna Laplatny, coach, “We took home a championship banner, medals and a championship ring as well as a lifetime of memories.”
Central Naval ROTC evening review and change of command parade was held. It is a ceremony that officially relinquishes the leadership of the regiment from the graduating seniors to the juniors. A highlight was a retirement ceremony for Master Chief Kennedy who has been with the Central Naval ROTC for the past 15 years. Additionally, the Naval ROTC is up for National Recognition once again.
Suntech held a manufacturing advisory meeting. They determined there is a need for the enhancement of soft skills in curriculum such as blueprint reading.
Additionally, a subcommittee will be formed to address financial aid as the school moves forward.
