Crank Works Bicycles: Women’s Ride Day
Women’s Ride Day was a creative idea from one of the cycling vendors within the shop. “For me, there are so few women in the cycling community, I took that idea [and] ran with it,” said Patricia Laird, owner of Crank Work Bicycles.
The event originally started out four years ago with just five cyclists at Anderson Snow Park. It then moved to Strong Tower Winery the following year.
“I just felt the location was just gorgeous and worked well with what the theme and idea I wanted for the Women’s Ride [Event].” Laird said.
“It’s a phenomenal way to stay fit. I love idea of trying to get more women into cycling, [as well as] something we should be promoting for seniors.”
Cycling is a great way to stay fit and also easy on the joints, Patricia explained. The ladies that participated in this event began peddling at Strong Tower Winery and proceeded with a 3, 20, 30, or 47 mile journey.
Each route consisted of hilly trails and beautiful scenery through Brooksville.
The route looped back to Strong Tower Winery to enjoy the rest of the day with refreshments and conversation.
Owners Patricia and Mark Laird opened Crank Work Bicycles, now in their fifth year. “It was a great thing to promote women and cycling,” Laird said.
Upcoming Crank Works cycling events include the “Tour de Crank Works” in July which coincides with the Tour de France and the “Hilly Hundred” scheduled for December.
