Railroad tracks intersect US 41 (Broad Street) and curve into the Airport Railpark located just south of the Hernando County Airport and the SWFMWD building. Businesses there are housed in steel buildings and the area is mainly zoned Planned Development Project (PDP) Heavy Industrial. The zoning change request before the BOCC on 5/24/16 was to allow a property on Airport Flyer Way to be developed for corporate park use.

According to documents provided, the original 15-acre property was intended for an industrial client to have rail access and a headquarters/office building. The County now owns the property, which is approximately four acres and does not have access to the rail line. The proposed site plan would extend the building currently on the property to enclose an additional 3,000 square feet and add 80 parking spaces.

The BOCC voted unanimously to approve the zoning change. The Corporate Park zoning opens a wider variety of uses for the property, including day care, business training schools, hotels/motels, restaurants, publishing/printing services, aquaculture and aircraft parts.
