Explorer K-8 Cheerleading Coaches Piecoral and LaPlatney shared with the school board the recent accomplishments of the 27 cheerleaders on their team during citizen comments on May 17th. The K8 students earned second place at Disney’s Contest of Champions. Their next major competition was Cheer Champions Express, winning a first-place spot and an invitation to compete at a national event.
Coach Piecoral and Coach LaPlatney took the team to Nationals in April. Though one cheerleader broke a hip during the first day of competition, the team worked together and the won Intermediate Middle School Grand Champion title the second day. On 5/14/16, the K8 team participated in a virtual competition, submitting the video of one of their televised routines. Piecoral was pleased to announce that the Explorer K8 cheerleaders earned the title of Middle School Grand Champions of the United States with a score of 82.6 out of a possible 90 points. Even more impressive was the statement that 22 of the 27 students on the team are high achievers academically also, with some on the Honor Roll, Principal’s list, or Superintendent’s List, and taking either honors or advanced placement classes.
