Basketball Camp
Hernando County Parks and Recreation offers a few programs for the kids during the summer months: volleyball camp, sports camp and basketball camp.
Basketball camp started June 13 and is coached by two amazing men, Marion Jones and Calvin Brown.

“It teaches fundamentals, keep the off the street and something to do,” Jones said. “I love the game of basketball, teaching and sharing some of the things I learn over the years that people have taught me, so I am giving back to them.”
Marion Jones has been coaching basketball camp for over 15 years and is well respected in the community as well on the court. Both Brown and Jones officiate high school basketball games here in Hernando County.
The camp is set up for a four day basic skills training as well as safety and conditioning.
“It’s a great experience, working with the kids…most important to teaching our kids how to be good team players not only on the court but off the court,” Brown said.
Brown has been with this program for seven years, and expresses how athleticism is important to instill in our young generation.
“I am so happy and proud that the county is actually doing this, it’s a great thing for our kids in the summer,” Brown said.

There are two more basketball summer camps before the summer ends: June 27-30; & July 18-21
