Celebrating 4th of July in Hernando County
High Point Community held Hernando County’s only Fourth of July celebration parade on July 4th.
The parade began near the High Point Community entrance and proceeded along the neighborhood streets ending at the Community Clubhouse. Many residents from the 55+ park and citizens from throughout the county came out to enjoy the parade.
The Parade consisted of fire-rescue vehicles, decorated golf carts, horses and many more participants.
“This must be at least the 30th parade (at High Point) and now officially three years ago, the only parade in Hernando County for the Fourth of July,” said Sylvia Pistorius said.
Sylvia Pistorius has lived at High Point for 25 years and has coordinated this event for over 10 years.
“I am very proud, especially of all the workers that made this come together. I have a staff that works together beautifully,” Sylvia said. “It’s the birth of our country and I am very proud to be a citizen. Fourth of July is a happy time and we should enjoy it.”
Over on the Gulf, Hernando Beach Club members had a beautiful view to celebrate the Fourth as passing boats displayed their red, white and blue.
“One of the goals is to bring more families; events like this would be nice if we had younger families so they can bring their kids,” said David Souza, Vice President of the Hernando beach club and events coordinator. Souza has been a member for nine years. “A lot of members served in the military or their children or grandchildren are serving now, just the freedom and everything that we are celebrating on independence day is so important to the folks that are here.”
With a great view and friends enjoying conversation, this day was not only fun but meaningful for many members.
“It’s a time to reflect on where our nation comes from and where it’s going,” Souza expressed.
Other celebratory events included the Masaryktown Community Center’s Freedom Fest on Sunday, July 3rd and the Hernando County Fairgrounds Fourth of July Firecracker Smash’em- up Demolition Derby & Fireworks Show.
