About an hour south of Hernando County you can visit Pass-a-Grille Beach.
When you arrive at the beach you see the Don CeSar Hotel rising above you.
This iconic 1920s pink hotel lets you know you have arrived at Pass-a-Grille Beach.
Pass-a-Grille Beach is to the south of the Don CeSar Hotel. There is paid parking along Gulf Way. The parking starts around 21st Avenue and continues to 1st Avenue at the pass.
The beach is just a short walk on the crossover away from the parking. If you head North there is a parking lot that has public beach access across from Publix.
The name Pass-a-Grille is rumoured to have come from the French phrase Passe Aux Grilleurs (the passageway of the grillers). It was said to be called Passe Aux Grilleurs because the fisherman would camp there and grill their fresh catch.
The beach is sandy and does not have rocks. It does have some shells if you like to collect shells.This time of year the water is bathtub warm. If it is a nice summer day the parking will fill up, but you can usually find a space by driving around.
Pass-a-Grille Beach is an excellent day trip from Hernando. The beach is beautiful and the southern tip overlooks the Pass-a-Grille channel and Shell Key.
