Aldi’s discount supermarket is coming to Brooksville near O’Reilly Auto Parts on Cortez Boulevard just West of Mariner Boulevard. The Aldi’s supermarkets are similar to Trader Joe’s and one opening locally is exciting. They are planning to open in early Spring and will provide an update in January.
Aldi’s carries a smaller selection of products than most supermarkets, but their store brands are deeply discounted. This smaller selection allows Aldi’s to focus on getting discounts on the products that they carry. They recently expanded their selection of organic products selection and are not carrying products that are treated with a number of pesticides or contain certain chemicals.
Jason Hart the CEO of ALDI said “At ALDI, we are dedicated to the well-being of our customers by providing high quality groceries at the lowest foods shoppers can feel good about serving their families… Our decision to remove these ingredients from all of our exclusive brand foods delivers on our ongoing commitment to meet the evolving preferences of our customers.
Since more than 90 percent of the products we sell are under our exclusive brands, eliminating these ingredients will have a real impact on the over 30 million people who shop in our stores.”
Aldi’s is a cousin of Trader Joe’s. In the 1960s two brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht owned Albrecht Discount (Aldi) grocery store chain and decided to split the chain in two.
They partitioned Europe and Germany. Theo named his chain Aldi Nord because he recieved Northern Germany and Karl called his chain Aldi Sud. Aldi Nord went on to purchase Trader Joe’s and uses that name in the United States. Aldi Sud operates the Aldi stores in the United States.
Aldi’s brings the first of these global discount supermarkets to the area. The savings can be substantial if you use their store brand products.
