The BOCC (Board of County Commissioners) abolished the Hernando Aviation Authority and created the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport Advisory Committee (AAC). The ordinance number :2014 27 states that all leases are subject to review and approval by the BOCC and FAA (eliminating the Hernando Aviation Authority). Additionally, all assets and liabilities of Hernando County Aviation Authority are transferred to Hernando County BOCC.
The Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) was created through ordinance 2014-28. They are an advisory committee to the BOCC and are expected to make recommendations on the following:
1. Planning for development and betterment of the airport
2. Sale or lease of county owned property within the airport
3. Requested use or proposed grants of concession within the airport
4. Policies such as airport rules, regulations, and standards
The members serve staggered 4 year terms and are appointed by the BOCC. They receive no compensation, benefits, or pension.
On December 24th, Hernando Sun questioned Hernando County Attorney Garth Coller about a possible change in state or federal law to allow the aviation authority to become an advisory committee. The Hernando Sun has not yet received a response from Attorney Coller.
Additionally, Hernando Sun is waiting for responses from Airport Administration Staff on the purpose of the change and how it will affect the airport financially.
