We received a request from the publisher of Rinny to review the book. Because the story deals with an important part of the military, we felt this would be a worthwhile read.
The story of Rinny is a fictional account of the actions of a dog trained in the art of war. The author of the book, Troy Basham spent thirty-five years as active duty and reserve in the Air Force. Over 40 years, he participated in operations out of USSOCOM, CENTCOM, the FBI and other types of military response teams. He has an impressive service record, earning a Bronze Star for his actions while serving in Baghdad in 2005.
Basham lives in Tampa, Florida. He loves dogs particularly Belgian Malinois the breed of the protagonist in this story.
The book will get your adrenaline rushing from the initial ambush of the Navy seals in Afghanistan. The seal team consisted of several soldiers and a Belgian Malinois named Rinny. Rinny uses his keen sense of smell to help the team avoid improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and enemies.
After the ambush most of the team returns to the United States. The book follows one of the team members as he and Rinny attempt to adjust back to civilian life. Then another member of the team arrives and asks for help to rescue his wife from a Mexican Drug Lord. The team gets back together and sets off to rescue her.
The book is action packed and at slightly less than a hundred pages, a quick read. It highlights an often forgotten member of our fighting force.
