Brooksville’s Planning and Zoning Commission has five board members and two alternates. While board members are volunteers, attendance is important as the P & Z helps determine the physical development of the city. The City Council is replacing John Wanat, who was removed from the position at the 06/20/16 City Council meeting due to three unexcused absences out of six regular meetings. Brooksville Policy 4-2008 gives the City Council the authority to replace the board members. Alternates Louise Taylor and David Donato are also being replaced.
Vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Commission were advertised and applications were received from two individuals, Gary (Richard) Sutton and Joseph Quinn. Sutton, a retired electrical contractor with experience in Nevada, is a recent Brooksville resident who desires to become involved in planning and zoning. He served on the town board in his community, which provided input to that local zoning commission. A real estate specialist, Quinn has served on the Hernando County Planning and Zoning Commission, and has worked with SWFWMD.
Vice-Mayor Robert Battista and Council Member William Kemmerer recommended Quinn as Wanat’s replacement. While Kemmerer has worked with Sutton at Southern Hills on a board, Quinn has more local experience. The Brooksville City Council voted to appoint Quinn to the vacant commission seat and Sutton to one of the vacant alternate spots. Quinn will serve on the board until 12/31/18. Sutton will serve until 12/31/17.
