In Brooksville there are a variety of athletic sports leagues, and recently Tampa Bay Softball started their first Co-Ed Softball Tournament at Jerome Brown Community Center.
Jeanie Fairman is the founder of the Tampa Bay Softball league. Brett McLees is the League Director and Dennis Gordon is the Business Development Specialist. The co-ed recreational sports league branches from Pasco County to Hernando County.
It began as a meetup group with a couple of people gathering to play softball. Four years later it turned into a seventeen team tournament. Their first inaugural tournament was held on July 31st at the Jerome Brown Community Center.
The women in the league keep up with the men. “There are some girls out here that makes us guys look back,” Chris Groffel said. Groffel is from Border Patrol co-ed softball team, and actually met his wife playing softball. They traveled from Orlando to support this tournament. “It’s a lot of fun and I love it.”
The tournament is scheduled to be at Jerome Community Center in Brooksville until the end of the year and there is talk of bringing a senior league tournament to the area.
“Hernando County was awesome to work with… We want to do more for the community, for Hernando County,” Gordon said.
