At today’s Hernando County Board of County Commission meeting, Commissioner Jeff Holcomb announced that he will be deployed by the United States Navy Reserve to serve his country for 6 to 12 months in an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia.
His last meeting prior to deployment will be May 10, 2016. The four-member board will continue to operate during his absence.
“It is my duty and honor to serve our country. I pray that I can do my job and take out the bad guys so they can never again bring their acts of terrorism here,” Holcomb said.
Commissioner Holcomb was first elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2014.
He also serves as an Intelligence Officer in the United States Navy Reserve and has completed more than 10 years of service. While serving, he supports the Battle Damage Assessment Section at US CENTCOM at MacDill Air Force Base located in Tampa, Florida. Additionally, Commissioner Holcomb is a lead senior software consultant for SunGard Wealth Management Systems and has been employed there for 16 years.
Commissioner Holcomb’s priorities in office included keeping tax rates flat for citizens, revitalizing the Anderson Snow Sports Complex to allow the county to host sporting events and tournaments and streamlining regulations for new and expanding businesses to encourage growth and relocation to Hernando County. He was instrumental in maintaining the current, low tax rate and cost of living in Hernando County.
Jeff Holcomb was born in Maryland and moved to Hernando County in 2002. Prior to moving to Florida, Commissioner Holcomb earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in intelligence studies from the American Military University. He and his wife, Stacey, have been married for 16 years and have two daughters.
