Copacabana is in the Mariner Crossing Shopping Center on the corner of Northcliffe Boulevard and Mariner Boulevard. It has been serving the area for eight years. It serves Cuban, Puerto Rican & Dominican Dishes. It is a great value with large portions and reasonable prices.
The restaurant has a mid-sized seating area and also offers takeout. In addition to take out they deliver to a five mile radius and cater events from weddings to business parties.
We tried the side of Mofongo which is a Puerto Rican specialty consisting of a mound of crushed fried plantains mixed with garlic and pork rinds. It comes served with a side of chicken broth. The portion was huge.
We also ordered a couple bowls of chicken noodle soup, four empanadas, and two entrees. The soup was excellent, but it does contain bones. The portion is very large with chunks of potato and sweet potato, carrots and noodles in addition to the chicken. We tried the beef and chicken empanadas and they were fresh and crispy.
We ordered the Ropa Vieja entree which is beef slow cooked until it can easily be pulled apart; mixed with peppers & onions in a red sauce. We also ordered the Pernil which is marinated slow roast pork. Both entrees came with a generous helping of black beans and yellow rice. (You can choose the type of beans and rice with your entree.)
The food all tasted like it was homemade. If you are from a family that makes great caribbean food, this will remind you of home.
