Elizabeth Perkins (46) of Brooksville is being charged with bank robbery and related firearms offense, announced United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III earlier this month. Arrested on July 7th, Perkins could face a maximum penalty of life in federal prison if she is convicted on all counts.
Perkins was employed as a Hernando County detention deputy from August 2010 to September 2012.
On February 10th, Perkins met with the Branch Manager of Sunshine Bank in Plant City to discuss a land purchase. After closing, Perkins threatened two employees at gunpoint with a semiautomatic pistol. She then stole $110,000, duct taped the employees and fled the scene.
The case was investigated by several agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Plant City Police Department, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Carlton C. Gammons will be prosecuting the case.
A criminal complaint is not a conviction and is only “an allegation that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty,” as stated by the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Perkins is being held at the Pinellas County Detention Center. She was released on July 8th, and then booked again July 13th.
