A wonderful art gem located in Hernando County is welcoming art lovers from around the Tampa Bay area to view their wide range of art. They have something that is sure to interest everyone – whether you like creative jewelry, sculptures, abstract art, photography, more realistic or impressionist paintings, art constructed with paper, or even pieces made out of shells. You’ll be amazed at the wide variety they have to offer.
I had the pleasure of sitting down with one of the owners, Dan Trahey. Dan, his wife Paula Trahey, and two other owners, Faye Campbell and Dale Starman own and run the gallery together. They came up with the idea for a gallery, and decided to give it a shot while sitting around one evening having a glass of wine before dinner.
When I asked Dan what started his interest in art he said that it was when he was heading to a wedding. “I was probably a good 45 minutes early and there was a little gallery, about like this one,” he said. “I saw a print in there that I liked, and I bought it. And then after I got married, my wife and I would take a lot of cruises and we’d see a lot of the stuff on the cruises and we started purchasing.”
During their cruises, they would purchase a lot of their art aboard the ship, as many ships have a gallery located somewhere on board. In addition to that, they sometimes buy art from the places they actually visit. The statues that they have of animals sitting on books are made by Carlos and Albert, who they discovered when they were visiting Mexico.
They have art from a number of other artists including Itzchak Tarkay, Peter Max, Patrick Guyton, Linda Le Kinff, and many others. Some of these include artists who live in Central Florida, such as Sky Campbell and Sarah Hinds of Somewhere Glassworks, Dennis Meloy, and Oleg Trofimov.
The Gallery would like to have an event sometime in November, before the Christmas season, in hopes that the community would consider buying artwork as a gift for a friend or loved one.
And their wide price ranges make buying art possible. They have unframed prints of photographs and artwork from $20 to $80. They don’t do any framing, so you’ll need to by the frame somewhere else, but as for their other pieces, they range anywhere from $125 to $15,000.
They’re also willing to go the extra mile to help their customers. If a customer is looking for something in particular, they are ready to help them find it or answer any questions the customers have.
