Brooksville – The 9th Annual Cruising for Critters charity motorcycle ride and poker run to benefit the Humane Society of the Nature Coast is a wrap, but monies to assist the society in caring for more rescued dogs and cats keeps rolling in.
This year’s run featured $1000 in Ashley furniture presented by Great Rooms of Spring Hill and New Port Richey for the rider with the best poker hand. Everett Pearsall of the Warthogs Motorcycle Club of Hernando was the big winner with a Full House. Presented with his winnings at the run’s last stop, High Octane Saloon, Mr. Pearsall said “I have been doing these runs since I was 18 and now I’m 72 and this is the first time I have ever won anything!”
Barbara Sprague, Executive Director of the Humane Society of the Nature Coast said the Cruising for Critters event on Saturday June 3rd, 2017 garnered over $5800 and took riders on an 85 mile tour of Hernando County capped off by an exciting after party at High Octane Saloon in Homosassa including several bands, prizes and auctions.
The event wasn’t quite over when the Society was contacted by the Grand Prize winner. Sprague said “You can imagine my surprise when Mr. Pearsall contacted us to tell us he and his wife had decided the animals could benefit from the gift much more. It just brought tears to my eyes to consider Mr. Pearsall’s generosity.” Mr. Pearsall donated the entire $1000 gift card back to the society to help raise more funds at their next event in October.
Barbara Sprague, Executive Director of the Society says “This was truly a ride that saved lives and now will allow us to rescue even more.”
Sprague also said that this year’s Fur Ball Gala will be held on October 21st at the Silverthorn Country Club where the $1000 furniture gift card will be included in the auction items. The society hosts 4 yearly fundraisers to benefit the dogs and cats in their care with the Fur Ball Gala being the largest event.
The Humane Society of the Nature Coast has served the neglected, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats of Hernando County since 1964. They care for and adopt out over 500 pets a year from their campus at 7200 Mobley Rd in Brooksville.
