Hernando County Property Management attorney Paul Molle’ presented bids on surplus property in Royal Highlands and Tangerine Estates. The Tangerine Estates property, located on La Bella Street in Spring Hill, was the subject of a tie bid in June. The BOCC rejected the bids at that time and directed Molle’ to work with Habitat for Humanity, as they had expressed an interest in the property as well.
The property is 23,400 square feet. The property appraiser lists the market value as $5,850.
Habitat for Humanity of Hernando County made good use of $10 and bid on the La Bella Street property from the county. The property is large enough to be divided into three lots for mobile homes, but will likely be divided for two homes. The BOCC voted to approve the sale of the property to Habitat for Humanity.
Executive Director Lynn Van Meter stated Habitat is making changes in Tangerine Estates and a groundbreaking was held on Melbourne Street on July 20. Habitat for Humanity requires potential homeowners to put in 500 hours of sweat equity, which includes working on building someone else’s house.
