March 25, 2018 (Spring Hill, FL) today at 2:39p.m. Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) received reports of smoke filling the gym. The building houses the offices, gym and laundromat of the Spring Haven Apartments. The apartment complex is located at 220 Mariner Blvd. in Spring Hill.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy black some coming from the gym. They then worked quickly to confine the fire and extinguished it preventing any further damage to this building or any of the surrounding apartments. The gym area of the building sustained heavy fire damage.
Crews also quickly determined that there were no fire victims in the gym during the fire. There are no reported injuries to the citizens or to Fire/Rescue personnel. HCFR personnel, in consultation with the Florida Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations, have the determined that the fire appears to have been electrical in nature and started in or near a treadmill. HCFR responded with 3 fire engines, 2 rescues, 2 battalion chiefs and 2 administrative chiefs for a total of 17 personnel.
