Healthy Kids Day 2016 took place on Saturday April 30 at the YMCA in Spring Hill. The outdoor event was held from 9 am to noon in the YMCA parking lot. The focus of course was healthy kids, and getting their minds and bodies more active. Kid friendly snacks were offered including watermelon slices on a stick and make it yourself trail mix. The public library handed out free books to help encourage summer reading to keep the mind active. Parents could release some stress and relax for a few minutes enjoying a chair massage.

In addition to the health snacks there was plenty of kid activities. A live DJ played music while the kids could enjoy an array of crafts and other fun activities. Pitch, hit, and run, bean bag toss, face painting, and the always favorite bounce house obstacle course, we’re just a few of the activities available for the kids. Children’s’ ID kits were given out and the YMCA showed you how to recycle broken pieces of crayons to make new ones.

The yearly event which is usually held in April is sponsored by the YMCA, it is a national event taking place at over 1,600 YMCA locations across the country. Many local vendors came out in support either offering health care, food, or activities for kids.
