The 35th Annual Heritage Day Festival, hosted by the Hernando Historical Museum Association last Saturday was a treat for local residents.
The event is a fundraiser for the museum association and featured a Chinese Auction, an old-time bake sale, folk music, a historic home tour, museum tours as well as vendors that showcased their wares or history related organization and crafting such as weaving and the slightly more obscure boondoggling.
Cindy, a volunteer from the Dade Battlefield Historic State Park explained that boondoggles were made and displayed in the home to ward off evil spirits. The park offers classes on making boondoggles.
While the Heritage Festival has been going on for 35 years, the 175-year history of the county was celebrated during the event, which took place at the Historic Train Depot and Countryman One Room Schoolhouse in Brooksville.
