Recently, the annual Hernando Night Out event took place at the Target parking lot on Aerial Way. Also known as National Night Out, this event takes place across the country. The purpose of the event is to strengthen the police and community partnership to help build a safer community.
The event was no small affair. There were very few empty parking spots in the Target lot or the Kohl’s lot located across the street. A large portion was blocked off and rows and rows of vendors and interactive areas were set up.
The event put on by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was a family event offering bounce houses, a dodge ball arena and a mini train ride for the kids. Vendors from all over the county had booths set up offering carnival type games for kids, gifts, raffles, and business material.
Mounted horse, helicopter, and mobile command center are only a few of the many items the Sheriff’s Office had on site to view and explore. The Fire Safety House provided a safe panic free space to learn all about fire safety in your home. If you were in the giving mood, the Blood Mobile was accepting donations. Operation Christmas Child was in attendance allowing you to give to a needy child overseas.
The fun continued into the evening with a live band and dance express on stage, along with the K-9 demos and Dojo demonstrations. Anything from education to insurance, senior care to yard care you could find at Hernando Night Out. This event is a great free, safe, family friendly activity.
