BROOKSVILLE – On May 19, the Florida Department of Education released the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) scores for third grade. Hernando County Schools’ results reveal significant improvement in increasing the number of students deemed proficient and lowering the number of students with learning gaps.
• The number of students who earned a level 3 and above rose from 58% in 2016 to 61% in 2017 and exceeds the state average of 58% by 3 percentage points.
• The number of students who tested at Level 1 dropped from 17% in 2016 to 13% in 2017. The state’s average for Level 1 is 19%.
• Hernando ranks 26th out of 67 districts for both scoring categories.
Hernando’s instructional leaders attribute the reading gains to a much more robust practice of analyzing student work and continue to dedicate resources to ensuring teachers have time for focused professional development, collaborative lesson planning, and developing standards-based lessons that meet the needs of all students.
