Although school has just begun, Hernando High School is already planning Homecoming events. The Homecoming Parade, always anticipated, is scheduled earlier this year, on September 30, from 1:00 – 2:15 pm. Approximately 500 participants are expected to join the parade.
The planned route will begin at Hernando High School, head down Oakwood Drive, travel south on Howell Avenue, turn left at Ft. Dade, and return to the school via Bell Avenue.
That will mean street closures. Hernando High School Student Government Association (SGA) Sponsor Sue Lisk approached the Brooksville City Council with requests for the City to waive the parade permit and the cost for street closures which would have Brooksville police officers assigned at intersections. The total amount requested is $661.38.
These requests fall under Special Event Sponsorship Credits. The City Council has waived fees or absorbed costs for other events. Most recently, the Hernando County Fair Association received $1,500 for fireworks and the demolition derby.
The theme for the parade is “Hooray for Hollywood”. Anyone interested in participating in the parade with a float or a vehicle should complete a parade entry packet and return it to Sue Lisk at Hernando High School before the September 15 deadline.
Hernando High School’s homecoming game will start at 7:30 PM on September 30.
